This is day 35 out of 56 of Hal Higdon’s 10K Walking Program which calls for an 80–90 minute walk. Unfortunately the left hamstring funkiness I reported Monday is back. And this time it feels like I may have actually injured something. Thus I have decided to take the week off walking to let my body repair. Unless, of course, yet another Post-Festivus Miracle occurs.
Hey! I know I’m a bit late since my vacation took over my life. But I hope you’re feeling better!

Oh no not you too! I’m so sorry you’re injured! Would the raised shoe and orthotics be a one time thing you could buy to fix the problem? I would hate for this to keep you out of running if it starts re-occurring. I can understand about the massages — they are expensive.
Possibly. I was really hoping I could overcome my various body issues naturally. But, we will see. I am using this time as an experiment. If it fails, and I keep breaking, I’ll have to find a way to afford the shoes and orthotics. The real bummer about the shoe part is that unless I have one specially made ($$$$$), the raised shoe is way thicker AND stiffer than the other one. Which makes running (and even speed walking) clumsy and difficult.
Actually, I take back the $$$$$ part for the custom shoes. I just looked into it and the place (Hersey Custom Shoe Company) I used to have shoes made lists their shoes at about double what I pay for my Brooks. That’s way better than I remember. Thanks for the inspiration!
Yay!! That’s great news!!! Glad you checked into it
With this being a recurring injury, any idea what you might be doing? Some problem with form, shoes, etc?
Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks Robinson. The problem with my hamstring began last Monday. Since then I haven’t really given it enough rest to recuperate. That’s what I am doing this upcoming week. Beyond this, we’ll see. My right femur is about 1.5 inches shorter than my left so that has gotten me into lots of trouble in the past. Trouble that was fixed by a special raised shoe, orthotics, and sports massage. All of which I can no longer afford.
Oh no! That’s terrible! I hope you get better soon.
Thanks Christi. I’m working on it!
